About

From electrician to sewing shop to chainstitch embroidery, Daniel Wright has always had an eye for detail and communicates quickly with customers. His ability to draw in the guest and engage with them as they watch him chainstitch is how he got his nickname, the Magic Cowboy. While the art of chainstitch embroidery has recently enjoyed a revival from its 1950s heyday when kids in Disneyland got their name chainstitched on Mickey Mouse ears, Daniel has set himself apart as the "fastest chainstitcher in the West" and can travel to any location and accomodate large events.

Before starting W Durable Goods in 2012, Daniel Wright spent 12 years working as an electrician. An artist at heart, he always made sure his electrical work looked appealing. “It has to work, but it has to look good, too. If it looks right, people believe it’s right.”

Apart from his day job, Daniel has always enjoyed making things with his hands. He initially taught himself to use a sewing machine so he could repair his own clothes but, once he started making bags, it sort of took over - at first monopolizing his time, then overrunning his house.

After a few years of practicing his craft, he was running out of storage space so he began selling his work online. In 2012, Daniel and his wife Stephanie felt like it was the right time to leave their day jobs and put everything they had into W Durable Goods. That’s when they made the leap to opening a retail store. The retail store gave him more space to grow his collection of sewing machines, one of which he acquired was the vintage Singer 114W103 hand-directed embroidery machine.

At first, it was just another sewing machine for Daniel to fiddle with, but he soon realized the magic of this special machine as customers watched him seemingly "write with thread". He closed the retail store in 2022, but continued chainstitching for old customers via word-of-mouth. Now Daniel travels across the US, setting up as live entertainment for weddings, private parties, corporate events, tradeshow activations and fundraisers.
